Svitlana Zakalyuk is a high school teacher at Uniondale Ukrainian School. Person of national spirit swaddled in love to Ukraine, which appears not only in her personal life, but her lessons which she gives with such sincerity. Probably her call for everything Ukrainian woke far in the childhood.
Born in the village of Kamenka, Ternopil region in 1974. Village history cherishes the patriots since 1930 when village population suffered from the pacification, and is "reconciliation" spiritually educated generation of people excited to bring health to their homeland, those knights who know what to live for and fight.

Svitlana grew up in family where high patriotic spirit and national consciousness lived. In addition to the patriotism family relationships, God father and mother Ukraine were always present in the education and formation of her personality.

Since 1990 she was a Member of the "Union of Ukrainians", took an active part in youth festivals in Poland and Ukraine. In 1991 Svitlana graduated from high school. She was also an active member of the “People's Movement of Ukraine".

The person with such sincere admiration to Ukraine looked for the perfect combination of her love and profession. So Svitlana elected Ternopil State Pedagogical University, Faculty of Philology (teacher of Ukrainian language and literature). Such a profession became the linguistic and cultural resource for the students and colleagues. This is the woman who has knowledge of the Ukraine’s inevitable value despite the complex history that took place and continues experiencing our national spirit.

With such incredible love, patriotic education and faith Svitlana moved to U.S. and worked 9 years at school of Ukrainian and Religious Studies in Uniondale. They say that the original always says the truth. What an incredible boost to the Ukrainian understanding can give such a wonderful teacher, who is the source of sincerity, knowledge and ancestors’ memory. Now students gather around the young teacher Svitlana Zakalyuk as long ago children met Kobzar to listen to his wise stories and songs...
